Nobody told Misturah she was a boxer. She just was.
She trained in a challenged community in Lagos, under a bridge, in a makeshift space. No proper equipment. No official club. No spotlight.
Just a young girl who refused to let her circumstances define her.
When Gloves for Africa found her, what we saw was undeniable. Not just talent, hunger. The kind that cannot be taught.
Our Belief
So we made a decision: we would walk the journey with her.
- We gave her structure.
- We gave her opportunity.
- But most importantly, we gave her something many young people in her community never receive, consistent belief.
- Someone showing up and saying: "We see you. We believe in you."
The Turning Point
In 2023, Misturah stepped onto a bigger stage through our Street to Champ outreach.
- For the first time, the world outside her community saw what we had always seen.
- She was no longer invisible.
- She went on to represent Lagos State.
- She became a 3-time national medalist.
Through our #10000GlovesCampaign, Misturah earned the opportunity to travel to Liverpool, England, representing not just Nigeria, but Africa, at the Elite Boxing Championships.
From under a bridge, to boxing on an international stage.
While in Liverpool, she and other young athletes met with the President of World Boxing, a moment that once felt impossible.
